NFL Week 11: Rooting Guide For The Dallas Cowboys

Whether you're a Cowboys fan looking for the Cowboys to make the playoffs or a fan looking to secure the highest draft pick possible, we've got you covered in our Dallas Cowboys Rooting Guide.

As we head into Week 11, the playoff race is coming into focus. Some teams are are already making personnel decisions with the expectation of making the playoffs, other teams are desperately trying to keep their playoff hopes alive.

With a win on Sunday, the Cowboys have a chance to move to .500 and come within a game of the division-leading Giants. But other teams may also have an impact on the Cowboys' post-season chances.

Here's an overview of how the NFC currently stacks up in the playoff race. The teams are sorted by their odds of making the playoffs, as calculated by Football Outsiders:

Division Leaders Wildcard In the Hunt
Teams Playoff Odds Teams Playoff Odds Teams Playoff Odds
Falcons (8-1) 95.7% Packers (6-3) 87.1% Cowboys (4-5) 39.1%
Bears (7-2) 90.4% Seahawks (6-4) 82.8% Buccaneers (5-4) 20.5%
49ers (6-3) 85.9% Vikings (6-4) 9.5%
Giants (6-4) 71.7% Saints (4-5) 4.8%

Some fans on our board don't give up on their playoff hopes until we're mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, other fans are already looking to optimize the Cowboys' draft position. Either way, our Week 11 Rooting Guide should have you covered:

Playoff Rooting Interests

  • Cowboys (4-5) over Browns (2-7): Don't be silly.
  • Redskins (3-6) over Eagles (3-6). The best result here would be if both teams lose. Barring that, we're rooting for the team that is 11-14 since its now-concussed quarterback said "You can't design a defense to stop me."
  • Lions (4-5) over Packers (6-3): Barring a division title, the Cowboys route to the playoffs will be via a wildcard spot. The Packers are a direct competitor for that spot, so we grudgingly root for that bunch of misfits in Detroit and their Chief Enabling Officer Jim Schwartz.
  • Bears (7-2) over 49ers (6-2): The Bears have a head-to-head tie-breaker over Dallas, thanks to the Week 4 five-turnover debacle. With the surging Packers, the Bears are not assured of the division title by a long shot, so they could end up competing for a wildcard against the Cowboys. As much as it pains Cowboys fans, we must root for the 49ers. Ugh.
  • Panthers (2-7) over Buccaneers (5-4): The Buccaneers are in the playoff hunt, and it would be good for the Cowboys if Cam Newton and the Panthers helped the Buccaneers fan base transition from playoff talk to draft talk.

2012 NFL Draft Rooting Interests

  • Cardinals (4-5) over Falcons (8-1). For the Falcons not to make the playoffs would take a collapse of such epic proportions that it's simply not going to happen. But Strength of Schedule helps to determine the draft order in the event of tie-breakers, so the weaker the Cowboys' schedule, the better their draft position. The Cowboys played the Falcons this year so they count against the Cowboys' Strength of Schedule. We're rooting for a Cardinals upset.
  • Raiders (3-6) over Saints (4-5): The Cowboys face the Saints in Week 16, so they figure into the Cowboys' Strength of Schedule as well. An Oakland win would weaken Dallas' Strength of Schedule (and thus improve their draft position), so we're rooting for the Raiders. Just win, baby!

Toss-Ups

  • Rams (3-5-1) over Jets (3-6): This game has no impact on the Cowboys' playoff chances, but you should be rooting for the NFC team to beat the AFC team, just on principle - and because that AFC team is the Jets.
  • All AFC games: We'll leave it up to you who to root for here.

Sahara Force India looking for more grip after Friday in Austin

Sahara Force India enjoyed its first taste of the Circuit of the Americas today as Paul Di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg completed busy free practice programmes in preparation for Sunday?s race.

?I think the organisers have given us an awesome circuit. It?s good fun to drive and there is a nice variation of corners, which gives a nice rhythm to the track. In terms of the new generation of tracks, I?d say it?s one of my favourites. The day was pretty smooth and we had to make sure we collected lots of data because we don?t have any historic information to draw upon. We looked competitive this morning and seemed to struggle more in the afternoon, so we need to try and find some more grip overnight.?

Paul Di Resta (VJM05/04)
?I said yesterday that getting the tyres working was going to be difficult ? and so it proved today. The track surface is very smooth and the temperatures were not especially high, which probably didn?t help us. We?ve identified some issues and haven?t found the best direction with the set-up yet, so we need to work hard to make the car easier to drive. In terms of the layout of the track it?s very open and there are some nice corners, especially the first sector which has a great flow. A lot of the corners are off-camber, which also adds another challenge.?

Jakob Andreasen, Chief Engineer
?It hasn?t been the easiest day of practice for us and we need to work hard tonight to make the car perform better on this challenging circuit. We struggled in the first session with low grip ? just as everyone did ? but we didn?t find much improvement in the afternoon session. The layout here is a bit like Suzuka with a mix of high and low-speed corners, but it?s fair to say we haven?t found the right compromise with the set-up to cope with these two extremes. On the positive side our long run performance looked quite encouraging and when we go over the data tonight I?m sure we will find the clues to help us make the right decisions with the set-up going into tomorrow.?

Human waste still pouring into NY Harbor after Sandy

By Brian Thompson, NBCNewYork.com

The operator of the fifth largest sewage treatment plant in the nation says it can make no promise as to when the plant will stop polluting the New York harbor.

A 12-foot surge of water swamped the Newark plant that serves some 3 million people when Sandy struck on Oct. 29 and repairs are not incomplete.

Mike DiFrancisci, executive director of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission, would only say "ASAP" when asked when repairs to the sprawling facility could be made.

Until then, the main outfall will continue dumping millions of gallons of partially treated human waste a day at a point close to the Statue of Liberty across from Manhattan.

Also on NBCNewYork.com: 13 gas stations allegedly gouged consumers after Sandy

Pathogens in partially treated waste are a health hazard and public safety threat, officials said.

Fishing, crabbing and shellfishing bans in the New Jersey waters of the harbor will remain in effect, said Larry Ragonese, a Department of Environmetal Protection spokesman.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection also issued an advisory to residents to avoid contact with the water.

While no target date has been set for repairs at the plant to be completed, DiFrancisci said he expected the facility, which has miles of underground chambers and pipes, to be redesigned to withstand the new reality of storms like Sandy.

"Underneath it would be no different than being in a battleship, making sure the doors are watertight," DiFrancisci said.

Are Indian Outsourcing Companies 'Obama-proofing' Their ...

By Preetam Kaushik
The US presidential elections are over and so is the speculation about repercussions in the Indian outsourcing industry. Before the elections, my opinion was that being against outsourcing is more of a rhetoric that President Barack Obama indulges in than a real, deep-seated view.

So Obama can follow through some of his promises which happened in the past as well, the question is if Indian IT companies are already well equipped to handle the force Obama.

The Argument for Outsourcing in the US
Before delving into how Indian outsourcing providers are responding to the re-election of President Obama, let?s take a look at the argument in favor of outsourcing as a boon to the US business community. Low cost and high profitability is what companies are looking for, likely factors for increasing shareholder value. And the bonuses of the CEOs largely depend on increasing that shareholder value. America has been the pushing force behind globalization, and may be one of its biggest beneficiaries and IT outsourcing companies understand that very well.

However, offshore outsourcing has become so huge that to tamper with what has been established is interrupting the supply chain in a way that can negatively impact the profitability of the ?1%? Obama would like to see support more of the tax burden.

Indian Outsourcers Remain Calm
Strangely enough, even though it is one of the biggest players in outsourcing, the Indian outsourcing industry hasn?t shown any adverse reaction to Obama?s re-election. However, Indian outsourcing providers are conscious that localized subcontracting 2 may be essential to meet the norms that American government may impose in coming years. The Indian stock market initially reacted positively to the re-election of Obama by going up 0.66 %.

Most of the industry leaders view re-election more as contributing toward stability rather than against outsourcing. Siddhartha Pai of advisory firm ISG suggests that there may be some changes in US tax laws that could potentially benefit local job creation or for taking away tax benefits for companies which outsource. However, it is then the bottom line that would determine what companies chose to do. Many industry leaders may feel that the companies who were on the verge of getting impacted with some change of policies by Obama?s last term have already put in place some policies, which triggered some strategic changes in IT outsourcing business.

Some of the companies, however, have started diversifying. This includes relatively smaller consulting operations and also offering enterprise solutions. Azure, an outsourcing company based in Gujarat, India, ran quality control projects out of the US that helped it to tide over allegations of job loss and other adverse impacts on the US economy. And Sai InfoSystem, another Indian IT outsourcing company, said in fear of backlash by Obama it started running mobile commerce operations out of the US.

BPO Outcomes weekly update:

NASSCOM data suggests that Indian IT firms have increased their investments substantially in the US. Nearly 175,000 jobs are created in a market which had such high unemployment rates. Conclusively, most of the Indian outsourcing industry believes that the supply chain globalization has been able to create, which spans across countries for the sake of increasing efficiency and productivity, is the most important force at this point of time.

Obama is the president of one of the largest economies of the world, but probably cannot reverse this significant force of globalization. It may be delicate to comment on what Obama might do in days to come as he faces the challenge of creating more jobs in America, however, it is even more fragile to think Obama would disrupt the flow of productivity that benefits American shareholders in the end. The clear stance of Obama against outsourcing has prepared IT outsourcing companies to realize that just in case Obama intends to deliver on what he promised against outsourcing, they must be-well prepared to deal with the threat.

All large Indian outsourcing companies had already started local outsourcing for certain parts of their work; now even many of the smaller, lesser-known providers are also equipped to handle the additional visa related constraints. This is when most companies know that what matters most to America is getting its economy on track and outsourcing will play a big role in making the American companies efficient. The role of Obama in curtailing outsourcing to some extent may only be symbolic and not factually significant.

Daytrading, Stock Trading, Investing and Forex Trading ? Which Is ...

In the current day's unpredictable market, I have found the simple way to invest is with fx trading. I have always done O.K, it was not till I learned about Fibonacci numbers that I began to see consistent gains. Developed in the thirtheenth century by Leonardo Fibonacci, the Fibonacci sequence is a method of expressing certain relations that are continuing across the universe. These relations may be seen in both natural phenomena and in human behaviour. How will they earn money from you? I'm really not going to go much further into the broker side f trading, what I'm talking about is Stock Trader Software. Stock dealing software has been about for years, frequently used by banks and other monetary establishments to foretell market fluctuations and future stock costs, it's been available to the common public recently. There are several corporations offering this program for sale online for fairly decent prices. When they lose, they might ask themselves if they'd followed the method.

If the answer's yes, they'd just take a closer look to be sure they'd followed everything as planned. There's not one single plan that works 100 pc of the time. They will not regret anything, and then just move on to the following trade. Never trade when you're indignant or annoyed because you'll make foolish calls. There are a lot of websites out there that permit you to employ a demo of their stockmarket trading software. While you may not get to access all the features you'll get the majority of the fundamentals.

It is a smart idea to use these offers. You'll also get to discover the truth for yourself the way to navigate that specific bit of software. These systems scan the market steadily for the best dynamic stocks. This suggests you immediately know which stocks are making a gain.

Stocks are influenced daily by foreseeable info and arithmetic. You can purchase inexpensive early and sell higher later earning tons of greenbacks each day or thousands of greenbacks each week on your investment with the best securities trading system. The advantages of an automatic stockmarket dealing robotic system are big.

Petraeus due at Capitol for Benghazi questioning

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Former CIA Director David Petraeus is preparing to field questions from lawmakers about the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya, his appearance on Capitol Hill coming one week after he resigned over an extramarital affair.

Petraeus is under investigation by the agency for possible wrongdoing, though that's not the subject of the closed-door hearings he is set to attend Friday. The September attack in Benghazi, which killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans, created a political firestorm, with Republicans claiming that the White House misled the public on what led to the violence.

Lawmakers spent hours Thursday interviewing top intelligence and national security officials in trying to determine what the intelligence community knew before, during and after the Benghazi attack. They viewed security video from the consulate and surveillance footage by an unarmed CIA Predator drone that showed events in real time.

Petraeus, who will appear first before the House Intelligence Committee and then its Senate counterpart, was expected to provide more details about the U.S. response to the attack.

"Director Petraeus went to Tripoli and interviewed many of the people involved," said Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.

"I'd like to get his sense of why it took as long as it did to get more accurate assessments of what took place in Benghazi," said Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a member of the House Intelligence Committee. As for Petraeus testifying after his resignation amid a sex scandal, Schiff said, "He's a tough individual and I am sure he will handle it to the best of his ability."

Petraeus has acknowledged an affair with a woman later identified as his biographer, Paula Broadwell. The FBI began investigating the matter last summer but didn't notify the White House or Congress until after the election.

In the course of investigating the Petraeus affair, the FBI uncovered suggestive emails between Afghanistan war chief Gen. John Allen and Florida socialite Jill Kelley, both of them married. President Barack Obama has put a promotion nomination for Allen on hold.

Top national security officials trudged to Capitol Hill on Thursday to grapple with fallout from the sex scandal as Defense Secretary Leon Panetta asked service chiefs to review ethics training for military officers.

Lawmakers went forward with a hearing on the nomination of Gen. Joseph Dunford to replace Allen in Afghanistan. But with Allen's own future uncertain, they put off consideration of his promotion to U.S. European Command chief and NATO supreme allied commander. Allen had initially been scheduled to testify.

Leading administration officials, meanwhile, met privately with lawmakers for a third straight day to explain how the Petraeus investigation was handled and explore its national security implications. Among those appearing before the House Intelligence Committee were Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and Acting CIA Director Michael Morell.

Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger of Maryland, the committee's top Democrat, said after the hearing that he was satisfied that the FBI had behaved properly in not notifying the White House or lawmakers about the inquiry sooner, in keeping with post-Watergate rules set up to prevent interference in criminal investigations.

The CIA on Thursday opened an exploratory investigation into Petraeus' conduct. The inquiry "doesn't presuppose any particular outcome," said CIA spokesman Preston Golson. At the same time, Army officials say that, at this point, there is no appetite for recalling Petraeus to active duty to pursue any adultery charges against him.

Petraeus, in his first media interview since he resigned, told CNN that he had never given classified information to Broadwell. The general's biographer also has said she didn't receive such material from Petraeus.

But the FBI found a substantial number of classified documents on Broadwell's computer and in her home, according to a law enforcement official, and is investigating how she got them. That official spoke only on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to speak publicly about the case. The Army has now suspended her security clearance.
